Carlos Lopez-Barillas

I have been an editorial photojournalist for over 25 years. During my career, I have worked for some of the leading organisations in the world, including The Associated Press, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Irish Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, and Dallas Morning News among many others.

My work has been published in every major newspaper in the UK and  the US; frequently on the front page, I also have produced illustrated feature pieces in National Geographic, Der Spiegel, Dazed and Confused, and Time magazine. In 1993 I received a replica of the Nobel Peace Prize from Rigoberta Menchu for Outstanding Documentary Work, for my coverage in Guatemala of the civil war.

Photography, both as my passion and my work, has taken me to many different areas of the world, both on projects as well as covering crises and armed conflicts in Latin America and Europe, as well as many editorial assignments for the leading publications around the globe.

I enjoy the human aspect of every story a photograph can tell, and have put together some of my work here to help others see some of the stories I have encountered throughout my career.
